Amethyst is transparent purple quartz and it is the most important quartz variety used in jewelry.

Amethyst has been attributed with various spiritual powers throughout history.

The name comes from the Greek “amethystos,” which means “not drunken.” The stone was considered by the Greeks to be a strong antidote against drunkenness, which is why wine goblets were often carved from it. Amethyst still symbolizes sobriety.

Leonardo Da Vinci wrote that amethyst could dissipate evil thoughts and quicken intelligence.

Amethyst was very important in the ornamentation of Catholic and other churches in the Middle Ages.

Carreras is a huge supporter of the non-profit Radio and TV programs that the Idea Stations run. So on February 9th and 10th we are hosting a verbal appraisal event that 100% supports them.

Have you ever wondered how much that gold necklace you inherited from your great aunt is worth? Now is your chance to find out. It’s like Antiques Roadshow, but for jewelry only. For a small cost of $25, you can bring 3 pieces of jewelry for a verbal appraisal from our Graduate Certified Gemologist Appraisers. ALL of the proceeds will go to the Community Idea Stations, so please spread the word to everyone you know!
