Appraisals

Appraising is a complex procedure that must be performed by professionals who are trained in the appraisal sciences. Carreras Jewelers is staffed by Certified Gemologists and Certified Gemologist Appraisers.
A Certified Gemologist Appraiser has earned the highest appraisal title awarded by the American Gem Society. With the aid of a fully equipped Accredited Gem Laboratory, we are able to accurately determine the value of your most precious keepsakes. Our appraisal staff is well respected by the AGS (American Gem Society) and appraises gems, diamonds and fine jewelry for estates, liquidation, insurance purposes and donation. Our Certified Gemologist Appraiser will provide you with two copies of your appraisal and it will include detailed descriptions of your stones and metals. The Diamond Quality Certificate

The Diamond Quality Certificate is a guarantee of authenticity and quality, certifying the cut, color, clarity, and carat weight of the diamond. Available only through American Gem Society retail members, the Diamond Quality Certificate was created to further differentiate American Gem Society professionals from other jewelers, while providing you, the customer, with a powerful and accountable diamond document.  See an example of a  Diamond Quality Certificate.

Jewelry Redesign

Custom designed pin with diamonds and gemstones.

Carreras will work with you to create a customized new look for your old or unworn jewelry. Bring in any jewelry items you never or rarely wear and we will create new wearable jewelry to best suit your life and taste. The options are limitless.

Jewelry Repairs

Carreras will assist you with all of your jewelry repair needs. From pearl restringing to resetting diamonds, Carreras is your source for jewelry repairs.

Engraving

Carreras offers in-store engraving on many items from charms and frames to wine glasses and bottles, whether purchased from Carreras or elsewhere.  We offer complimentary engraving on wedding rings and bands purchased at Carreras. Let us help you add that extra personalization with monograms, dates, messages or symbols of your choice. We can also assist with corporate gifts engraved with your logo. Jewelry Buying

Carreras has had a dedicated buying office for over 15 years. Our Certified Gemologist Appraiser/Buyer, Mark, will buy gold, diamonds, platinum or silver.

Cash for your old jewelry and precious metals.

Mark will give you a purchase quote for anything from hollow-ware to jewelry to miscellaneous broken metal pieces. He specializes in period time pieces, generally from the 1930s and earlier, but has extensive knowledge of modern pieces as well.

When evaluating items, he determines the offer based on age, condition and desirability of the particular piece. Gift Wrapping & Mailing

Carreras will gladly gift wrap and mail items you purchase from our store or our website. Simply call us at 804-282-7018. We will also keep on file your anniversary or family birthdays, and remind you prior to the event.

Insurance Replacements

Our Insurance Replacement division works with local and national insurance companies including Mutual Assurance of Virginia, State Farm, and Nationwide on jewelry claims. We work with the insurance companies and the policyholder to provide fair and accurate replacement quotes. We are dedicated to working with all parties to make these unfortunate situations easier.
